Maureen Bromley's recent piece ABSTRACT DESIGN sparked a discussion of how to make little rings. So, we are starting an experiment. Anyone can join. I searched out the methods shown in DMC…Continue

Inadvertently worked this stitch yesterday. Can anyone tell me please if it has an actual name for future reference. Thanks.

Does anyone know any books on Needle Lace Grounds and Fillings? Thank You!
Our BEGINNERS group has a lot of useful information. This page has book recommendations: Barley and Earnshaw are especially good.

We also have free tutorials on this site. Look for the gray bar above, click on TUTORIALS. The Michael Dennis videos are quite good. I also have some free tutorials on my website. http://lynxlace.com/#needlelace
I started needlelacetalk specifically to address the problem you mention -- how difficult it is to find information about traditional needle lace. In concept the technique is not difficult to understand, but it requires a lot of practice to do good quality work. Unfortunately that deters a lot of people. But not our members.
Eventually, I would like to get in reproducing antique laces, but living in the USA it is hard to find information on it. So you know any books that will help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sandra
I would say yes. They will produce different effects. With needle lace, especially modern needle lace, there is no "one right way" to do something. Test various thread sizes on your pattern and decide which you like better.
Will I be okay practicing my stitches with DMC-Cordonnet Sizes 30wt and 50wt?
Thank you,
Sandra
I can't take credit for the software: ning created that. I just saw its capabilities and figured out how to make it work for us. I do have a facebook account, but only because it is another way of advertizing the entities I care about (my website, NLT, laceIOLI, IOLI.org). I don't like facebook's software. It sends out invitations to play games, using your name without your knowledge. It is awkward for long detailed posts, and is awkward for large numbers of photos. There are a lot of lace making beginners there. But it is set up for short comments of ephemeral interest, not for substantive, I-want-to-save-this-forever type comments. Facebook focuses on collecting likes and collecting friends. That isn't really what we are about here on needlelacetalk, or on laceioli.
I am one of the "strange " people who do not do Facebook (or Twitter), I like the set up here, as even I, can navigate it - well most of the time!! Lorelei is always there to help those of us who have difficulties, but even I, who is not very competent with a computer, can navigate around the site, and add photos etc. - A big Thank You, Lorelei, for creating it so it is easy for us all.
