This website has photos of Halas lace. The gallery page has a video, which has some brief shots of the lace being made. The laces are not shown in enough detail. But the catalog page does have some images which can be enlarged, so stitches may be identifiable. http://www.halasicsipke.hu/start_eng.html
A facebook page, be sure to look at the PHOTOS. https://www.facebook.com/HalasiCsipke

Some Hungarian needle lace in process, and photos of especially good finished pieces, posted on Facebook today by Kovacs Tibor. I assume they are Halas lace.

Loretta,
Thank you very much for sharing information as precious as the one about the Halas technique.
Christiane
Loretta Holzberger has an article on Halas needle lace in the current issue of the IOLI Bulletin. It is very good, and explains the basic working methods and how it differs from western European needle lace. Congratulations, Loretta, on a job well done!
Laura, the butterfly is about 4" across, or maybe just a bit larger. Thanks for the suggestion about rolling the cord edge when stitching into it.
Beautifully done Loretta! The balance of the cord and thread seem perfect! How big is the butterfly? I think that by "rolling" the cord edge down a little when working the stitch into it keeps it further to the back. I keep my finger under the padding along the cording when I try to stab the cord. That seems to help it roll.
Sadly, the 210/2 thread is a difficult choice, but it works.
I just completed my first piece of Halas type lace. I have uploaded it to the photo file in Loretta's photos, and hopefully it will be added to the Halas files. It was certainly a challenge attaching the working threads to the cord on the back side while keeping the top side of the cord looking fresh. I also didn't know how difficult it would be to do the woven parts. They were certainly a challenge, and I was using 80/2 thread. Laura, I admire you working with 210/2 threads.
Laura: thanks for the link. I didn't know about the facebook page.
I'm using probably a 210/2 for a very long term piece. My outline looks like tanne 50. I have a little trouble seeing it, but it's laying nicely. Just found a Facebook page for it... https://www.facebook.com/HalasiCsipke If you have an account, it allows you to follow it. I rarely get on there so it may inspire me to be more active there.
I just bought Pat Earnshaw's book and joined this group. I'm beginning a butterfly design, and have chosen to use #10 Cebelia for the outlines and #80/2 Egyptian cotton for the fillings. What threads have others used? I tried doing the weaving with finer thread and gave up in frustration, so settled on these threads.
In you photos of lace, there is a child in picture No 20 doing such an incredably complicated piece.
