Hi everyone, Please don't worry I & my family are several kilometers away from the fire area. We can see them at a pinch but we are in no way close enough to be in danger. I live in a retirement village in a very safe environment so anything like that is monitored for any danger or emergency. Thank you for all of your kind thoughts & prayers. We are so sorry for the folk involved who have not only lost their homes & possessions but their memories.

The helicopter pilots & fire crews have done a sterling job & we are so lucky to have such people giving up their time & energy to such dangerous conditions. Well done all!

We got footage of the fires on the TV news last night. Very sad about the pilot, and also all the homes lost.  It looks SO frightening. Stay safe, Lynette. I hope your evacuation Bag" is packed with your treasures, not lots of clothing - clothes can be replaced, your beautiful needlework cannot!!!  I hope the rest of your family are safe, too.   Our thoughts are with you.

How can life be that cruel to someone?  That is terrible. I hope he has a good supportive family to surround him with love and help

You, Lynette,  just keep safe, and well, and know there are lots of hugs winging their way over "the ditch" to you!

For Non Aussies & Kiwis, - "the Ditch" is the bit of the Pacific Ocean that lies between Australia and New Zealand, and makes us 2 separate countries.!!!  Strangely - New Zealand is closer, in flying time, than Perth in West. Australia!! - 3 hours to NZ, and 5 to Perth!

Thank you Liz, Hugs are very much appreciated at the moment. One man lost his home in the quakes 6 years ago which was re-built but now has burnt to the ground with the fires. How cruel for one to be struck with losing his home twice.

Gosh! I have not heard that news yet. I am glad to hear you are safe Lynette, - and stay that way, please!  Christchurch can't win a trick, lately and I am so sorry. It must be hard to concentrate on the important things - like your beautiful needlework and needlelace.   Just know we are all sending you hugs and best wishes.

Yes thank you Teri. I am several kilometers away from the Hills where the fires are raging. We have had 2-3 drought years in a row hence the dry conditions plus unusually high temperatures which all lead to the conditions for fires.

Several homes have been burnt to the ground & one life lost (helicopter pilot who was a war hero). I wonder just how much more we can take what with earthquakes (which are still going on) & now the fires.

I can see the fires from where I am & I am thankful that I don't live any closer to them but my heart & prayers go out to those who are affected.
