Hello Jean,

Aren't needlelace butterflies just fascinating?! This is a design coming from the Needlelace school in Zele, it's by Irma Boone, I could scan it for you if you'd like to have it, I have several designs. Why don't you send me a private message to my e-mail address marina.berts@simsalabim.ch?

Found this on Pinterest, it really is beautiful. I love doing needlelace butterflies, is it your own design, or is there a pattern?

All good things take time - this purse sounds so incredibly intricate and will be exclusively yours with matching your clothes, what a wonderful idea! Would love to see some pictures when you have the time, even if its during the process of making the purse.

Thank you! I enjoy needlelace very much but I just don't seem to have enough time for it for the moment. I'm working on a purse (in grey Retors d'Alsace 12) that I will embellish with 3D flowers worked in stumpwork, to make it match with my clothes. It goes very slowly, though!

You are an expert, just like Avital says!

Hello Isabel,

Why don't you start with Catherine Barley's 'Needlelace. Design and Techniques. Classic and Contemporary', that's a very good book. Then there is 'Nadelspitze, alte Technik-neue Muster from Emil Winter Verlag, it's out of print and hard to find, unfortunately. Good luck!

Thank you for your comments! I really enjoyed working the butterfly. I'm working a peacock now, it's almost finished, I could post a photo of that as well...
The rings on the upper part of the wings are just worked around a hole in the ground. In the lower part of the wings, I created a kind of grid of threads and wove around the cross sections before doing the buttonhole stitches.
