My husband and I took a day trip over to Erwin, TN last week, and stopped at an antique shop. I was sorting through a basket of crochet doilies when I came across this piece of filet lacis. I knew exactly what it was, thanks to this group. I paid the $3 he was asking, and also came home with a 1918 Singer treadle sewing table complete with machine. All I need to do is buy a belt and get it oiled up and I should be able to use it. He was only asking $65 for the Singer. I think I got pretty good deals, if I may say so myself.

Jeannette - treadles must be very popular.  I easily found a belt online for less than $10.

My grandmother used a work boot leather shoelace and stapled it together with a ?piece of heavy wire?  It worked very well although it did stretch in use and had to be resized occasionally.  It finally wore round and stopped stretching.  Just in case you have trouble finding a belt.
