Do whatever you like with the ground. Even random buttonholed bars would work.
Just had a close up look at the collar pattern, Lorelei, - and "decisions, decisions"!!! shall I change the ground and work it as a Point de Gaze piece, - or do I change the edge slightly, and work the collar in Gros point? -- or, of course, - work it twice - one of each!! (I better get that suggested, before someone else does!!! :) )
You can see that I am already thinking about working it!!
Thanks Lorelei. don't hold your breath, though. I am working on a picture piece for the Australian Lace Guild's Triennial Awards next year, - and it is So slow to do!! The theme is "Gold". Melbourne is much like Sacramento, - built, in the 1850's on the local Gold rush of the time, and as the Guild convention will be here in Melbourne, again,so the theme is very appropriate.
I Will, though have a go at the collar, - next year. I like wearing lace and collars etc - especially to Lace Days, and flaunt it!!!!!!!
Liz, please do use the design for needlelace. I'd love to see it.
I'm glad you guys find the site useful. Teri, I think I found it just by doing a Google image search for line drawings of roses, but it was a while ago.
Elizabeth, I'll bet Lorelei's collar would be beautiful if done with your skill and deft hand!
Thanks for posting that link, Lorelei!
Thank you Karen and Lorelei.
I have saved those patterns for the future. Lorelei, I love your collar, but would like to make it in Needlelace rather than bobbin lace. I hope that is Ok with you.
I put a link to the FrenchKnots site onto our PATTERNS PAGE.
Hi Elizabeth! The rose is not my design. I got my rose patterns from French Knots (free vintage embroidery patterns). The one is this picture is this one, and the ones around the shoulders and back of the collar are these. The overall concept of the collar, especially the thick band or outline around the whole thing, and the way the leaves and petals sometimes overlap the outline, comes from Lorelei Halley, from this pattern she offers on her site.
Is this your own design? I love that flower.
