This is my first piece ever in progress. Don't look to closely at the stitches, need lots more practice, but this is the pattern that comes with the Needlelace DVD and is worked by Carol Williamson.
I experimented with different size threads on this cause the 50 Broder Machine is just too fine for my eyes. That is what is recommended in the DVD 30 Broder machine for the cordonnet and 50 for the fillings.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.

After this is done, I decided just to do some squares and a little thicker thread and practice on the stitches.

I have a scanner on my printer but for some reason it doesn't work, I'll have to see if I can get it to work, since my camera isn't very good.

Carol's DVD is very good, I guess I should of just enlarged the pattern and stuck to thicker thread, I do like the looks of the finer thread too but not a good idea for a first piece.

I should, have added, that enlarging a pattern and working in thicker thread is a good idea.

I use a big, lighted, magnifier, as my eyes are getting a bit old, - like the rest of me, and I like finer lace!!!  I am now starting to work in thicker threads, though.

Well done, Florence. Gosh! that is a big piece for a first try! .I have worked a Carol Williamson pattern from the UK lace magazine, but have not seen her DVD

Her magazine articles were very good, and a big help when I was a beginner.

Keep going, you are doing well.  don't be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck.  That is what this site is all about - helping each other.

Florence: this is really a complicated piece with lots of techniques in it.  Very ambitious!!!  I also have eyesight problems, so I enlarge every pattern and use thicker thread an a magnifier clamped to my chair.  But this does make working awkward sometimes, because my workpieces end up being a little too large for comfort in the hand.  Are you finding the Williamson DVD really helpful?  Must be, since you are doing so well.

Good work, Florence.  But I hope you can get better photos in the future.  If we can't see the stitches and how it was made, there isn't much point in posting the photos.  Do you have a scanner, and have you tried laying the work piece face down on the glass?  I get really good pictures that way if my object is small enough to fit on the glass, because whatever is in contact with the glass will be in focus and I don't have to worry about my inadequate photography skills.

Lorelei, I don't know why this picture showed up twice.
