I also noticed (at full resolution) that the outline buttonholing is actually spaced rather far apart. Interesting. it still looks good.

I think this lace is relatively recent, Revival Era (circa 1900), rather than dating from the era when gros point was invented.

Some petals appear to be twisted buttonhole, no straight return or whipping, with the stitches arranged as doubles. The veins in the petals and calyx also appear to be twisted buttonhole. The buttonholed bars with Venetian picots are so neatly made. If I ever reach this level I'll be amazed.

I thought the fillings in this motif were particularly interesting. Look at photo full size to see them.
