Keep practicing, Onna. I get different lengths of picots too!! I find them had=rd to get the same length - especially if I do them on different days - some good days have nice even picots, and bad days - they are all sizes!!!
I have not found a way to be consistent, yet!
It is an enjoyable craft, and so portable to take out and about with you in your pocket! - so don't give up. I learned from Elena's books, too, but had the good luck to get a class with her at IOLI in Portland 2010.
I haven't tried oya yet, so I have no advice to give. But I have tried blocking some of my lace pieces when they were finished, and that did make them look more presentable. I pinned them onto a piece of foam, sticking the pins so stretch the piece just a little so it would be flat. Then I sprayed it with hot tap water in a plant mister. Let it dry for 24 hours. It looked much better. I did that to my "Sun".
Thank you @ Elizabeth for the kind comment. *I needed that encouragement. Some days I call this stitch *AIRBORNE if you know what I mean. Remove needle and throw work across the room. Take a deep breath and get over it! LOL
Hi@Lorelei, yes E.D. =Elena Dickson, I save so many tries of her patterns they are in a folder called ED, no disrespect meant, Elena if you are on here. And Nope, they are all the knot stitch. I did the last row about 3 times as I had a lot of trouble getting the 3 long loops in the center the same size. Any hints on how to get these right? Practice, Practice, practice, well. I work on the knotted lace a good 2-4 hrs. a day . I think the camera picture is not so ugly. On here you see every mistake and imperfection as I scanned it at 200dpi.It might be better if I pressed it and even out my work. But it is the first finished piece I have had the guts to put up. Any advice on how to perfect these stitches? Anyone at all, I would most appreciate it. I have had no help other than her books and a few websites. Would love to take a class from Elena.
Pretty. Well done.
I think,. Lorelei, that the outer stitches are just worked closer together than the previous row of stitches, and knotted tighter, therefore they look different. The previous round is a different stitch - well, the same knotted stitch, but left with spaces.
Is E.D. Elena Dickson? Interesting. The outer row looks different. It looks like tatting, or is it buttonhole stitch over laid threads?
