Very interesting needlelace pieces on US eBay

I want to let everyone know that there is a beautiful pair of pieces, cuffs maybe?, on the US eBay, item # 401203537976. (Put the item # by itself in the search box and the listing will come up.) The workmanship is incredible and the pieces look absolutely new. Design is sort-of Art Nouveau.  I can't post a photo for copyright reasons, but if Lorelei agrees they are interesting, maybe she can get permission to copy a couple of the posting's photos here.See More

"What do you think about the date of this piece? From circa 1900 or much older, 1600s?"

"gros point diamonds area in center is worked in twisted buttonhole.  Fillings of pairs of stitches are twisted bh stitches. Veins in leaves are twisted BH."

"Most dense areas are corded buttonhole. Veins are twisted buttonhole. Fillings are mostly twisted buttonhole in groups, doubles being most common. I did find one area in corded twisted buttonhole."

"Heavens! I only wish it were my work! No, I am hopeless at needlelace. This is a close-up of a piece of antique needlelace, probably 19th C per Lorelei and others."

"Not exactly the same, but similar to this from an exhibition in Liege in 1906 of lace being made at the time. The caption indiates it was made by the Lavalette Company of Brussels."

"Dense areas are corded buttonhole.  Outlines of large motifs have buttonhole stitches spaced quite far apart, upon a bunch of laid padding threads.  Very clever.  This method could be used by those of us who don't like…"

Youghal Lace

I don't see a group to which to post this heads' up, so I'll put it out here. There's a stunningly beautiful piece of Youghal Needelace on ebay, for way more money than most of us can afford! But there are some good closeups, and the overall design is impressive. Some of you might want to take a look:

I've taken the liberty of slightly renaming some of your photos so it will be clear which ones are shots of the same piece. If I've made mistakes please tell me. I did this so our members can be clear once we start discussing them, and so they are more visible to search engines.

Nancy, absolutely, yes. If you have more antique needle lace, please post photos. It gives us a basis for discussion, shows us how the various stitches were used. Any true needlelace, of whatever age, is welcome among our posted photos. And thank you for taking the trouble. If you have small pieces that fit on your scanner (if you have one) that is the easiest way to get good, in focus, photos.

THANK YOU for posting the photos of the laces from your collection. They are marvelous, and you have given us enough detail that we can even see what stitches were used. This is exactly what we need.

As far as I can tell, "friending" someone makes it possible to send private emails to that person, and receive them. As group administrator I can do that anyway. But this gives you the capability.

In regard to your new piece of antique needlelace: I'd love to see it. Would you be willing to post a photo among your photos?
