Begin at the Beginning

It's been a long summer, but I'm finally able to start working on needle lace again. I spent most of June and July helping my daughter, and then again in August when the baby decided to make an early appearance! Everything worked out all right, and now I have a grandson and new grand daughter. My son got married in late October, and I hope that my family is settled for awhile.

I made myself a hot cup of tea, and while it steeped pulled out all my needle lace books and projects. I'm… Continue

Youghal Lace

I don't see a group to which to post this heads' up, so I'll put it out here. There's a stunningly beautiful piece of Youghal Needelace on ebay, for way more money than most of us can afford! But there are some good closeups, and the overall design is impressive. Some of you might want to take a look:

In case that URL doesn't show up (again), the… Continue

Dear All, Many thanks for your comforting words to all of you. I have not been able to settle to anything creative since being shaken awake on my 72nd birthday with the 7.1 earthquake. We have had about 800 shakes or after shocks since then & one wonders how the house stands up to it! However I am coping okay but still sleeping with a night-light on & the radio going very quietly - just so I can hear a human voice in the room. I am still very unsettled in myself but I know that once the… Continue

NZ earthquake.

Hi everyone. I live in Christchurch New Zealand & have suffered the terrible earthquakes which have litterally flattened our beautiful city. The only thing we can be thankful for is that only two people were hurt & no-one was killed. Some of us have lost our homes depending on the type of ground our home was standing on. I was one of the lucky ones & only suffered minor damage - 2 holes in the walls where the TV set fell & broke, lost most of my lovely china, & several other… Continue

Venetian Gros Point.

Today while I am forced to rest my very sore legs I have started to tack down the cordonnet around my first piece of Venetian Gros Point lace. Watch this space!

After a little pause...

I had to take a little pause from ...well from thinking ;) because I had to finish another crafty project for the 12th of June (some sewing).

Now I am back to my needlelace project, thinking it will be wise to follow the advice I received and perhaps trying something easier than a pair of dragonfly wings to begin with.

I was thinking to make some drop-shaped forms and try different stitches on them (the ones which look nicest thinking about the future wings).

Besides,… Continue

Just beginning

I am very glad that I have just found this group.

I just recently discovered my passion for needlelace, but have no other sources than the internet to learn it !

Only one month ago I barely knew about it.

I have an idea for a first project, but it's just a blurry idea, I cannot yet visualize how I wish the result to be (perhaps because I still have no experience).

I probably should start with a very simple shape first, but instead I'm already following this idea I have,… Continue

Starting another flower

I want to work on my "open" stitches, double brussels, pea stitch and single brussels, and looked through my Lovesey books for inspiration. In "Creative Design in NL" (p97) I found a 7 petal flower that will give me an opportunity to practice. The flower is described as an "antique flower" set into fine muslin. It must be a very small flower enlarged to fill the entire page. I scanned, printed, traced and generally tweaked until I'm ready to start couching. There are 4 leaves with the flower,… Continue

needle lace on the web

Hello everyone!

The website situation is difficult.

What about having the International Old Lacers host the talk group; their website is expanding and Mark (the webmaster) has been working on increasing IOLI's participation in this area. Since this is a new service, there will be a bit of adaptation on the part of the IOLI website to faciliate needle lace talk, but Mark is ready to make it happen.

As an organization, IOLI promotes lace study and I think this would be a… Continue

Current situation

Our host for the year July 2010 through July 2011 has been settled, and I have received enough donations to pay our ning fee. Consequently, I have deleted the temporary groups that I set up earlier.
