Youghal Lace

I don't see a group to which to post this heads' up, so I'll put it out here. There's a stunningly beautiful piece of Youghal Needelace on ebay, for way more money than most of us can afford! But there are some good closeups, and the overall design is impressive. Some of you might want to take a look:

In case that URL doesn't show up (again), the… Continue

Nancy - This piece was brought to my attention by pinterest. The woman calls it Inishmacsaint lace. I would have called it revival era Venetian. I recall that you have some other needle laces in your collection which look like revival era Venetian. I'm wondering what relationship these laces might have. I don't really know much about Irish laces, except that Ireland seems to have had an active lace industry in the 19th century, which focused on new kinds of lace -- Limerick, Coggeshall, Carrickmacross. So is Inishmacsaint a part of this movement? I don't know, but the question does occur to me.

I've taken the liberty of slightly renaming some of your photos so it will be clear which ones are shots of the same piece. If I've made mistakes please tell me. I did this so our members can be clear once we start discussing them, and so they are more visible to search engines.

Nancy, absolutely, yes. If you have more antique needle lace, please post photos. It gives us a basis for discussion, shows us how the various stitches were used. Any true needlelace, of whatever age, is welcome among our posted photos. And thank you for taking the trouble. If you have small pieces that fit on your scanner (if you have one) that is the easiest way to get good, in focus, photos.

THANK YOU for posting the photos of the laces from your collection. They are marvelous, and you have given us enough detail that we can even see what stitches were used. This is exactly what we need.

As far as I can tell, "friending" someone makes it possible to send private emails to that person, and receive them. As group administrator I can do that anyway. But this gives you the capability.

In regard to your new piece of antique needlelace: I'd love to see it. Would you be willing to post a photo among your photos?
