Our lace group has a vendor coming in May, and I'd like to know what threads are good for needle lace. She carries a huge selection of Gutterman silk, and I've seen a lot of beautiful pieces done…Continue

Baby Steps

I feel as though I'm finally making progress. I printed graph paper on my heavy blue paper and couched some rectangles so I could practice my stitches.

Here is what I've accomplished so far. This is not my first attempt at diamonds. I tried them with single Brussels, corded single Brussels, and various thread sizes. I kept getting confused with single…

Begin at the Beginning

It's been a long summer, but I'm finally able to start working on needle lace again. I spent most of June and July helping my daughter, and then again in August when the baby decided to make an early appearance! Everything worked out all right, and now I have a grandson and new grand daughter. My son got married in late October, and I hope that my family is settled for awhile.

I made myself a hot cup of tea, and while it steeped pulled out all my needle lace books and projects. I'm… Continue

Starting another flower

I want to work on my "open" stitches, double brussels, pea stitch and single brussels, and looked through my Lovesey books for inspiration. In "Creative Design in NL" (p97) I found a 7 petal flower that will give me an opportunity to practice. The flower is described as an "antique flower" set into fine muslin. It must be a very small flower enlarged to fill the entire page. I scanned, printed, traced and generally tweaked until I'm ready to start couching. There are 4 leaves with the flower,… Continue

Hi, Lenore. I want to say thank you for your lovely designs in tatting and hairpin. I'm trying one from Old-Time Crochet and I've seen another in Georgia's site. It's a pleasure find you here. Greetings from Tepotzotlán, México.

Lenore: the fact that she makes it impossible to contact her is an indication that she knows she is doing something wrong.

I found your needle lace on this internet site:

http://www.newlacepatterns.com/page/280  But this doesn't look like your blog.  She has a photo of your leaf 8, and the colors fall in exactly the same places as yours, but she writes about it as if it were hers.

I did print out the directions. I will try to start today. I see she uses pearl cotton for the cordonnet but I can't find out what size. Also I do not see the size thread she uses for the fillings. I have an old publication"The Needle Lace Primer" by Yvonne Welch, published on 1981 and I purchased it from "Beggar's Lace" in Dever Co. They have been out of business for many years. She recommends linen thread or crochet cotton Pearl 5 or 8. Shouldn't the fill stitches be finer? Your work looks great.

Looking forward to learning more about needlelace. Many years ago I worked with a video tape "Needlelace Medallians" with V.Michelli. Tried a little more here and there. I think this group will help me alot. Thank you.

Here is how to add a photo to the beginners patterns album:
click on ALL ALBUMS
at left click on EDIT ALBUM
look for SAVE YOUR ALBUM at left
mark the box EVERYONE'S PHOTOS
drag the image from the left group to the right group
click SAVE
I don't know if members can change an album that I created. I can change others.
I did it for you.
